The Best Road Trip Travel Games

Whether you are on a road trip and stuck in the car for hours, at a hotel and kids are getting rambunctious, or you are camping and have a lot more time to be together, these are some great road trip travel activities.

Everyone loves a road trip! But, it’s easy for the kids to get a little bored on the way. There are plenty of games and songs to play, but you don’t want them just turning on the video and plugging in. They’ll be in their own world the rest of the ride. Sure it will be quiet, but will everyone be having fun.

In this article we’ve split up the various activities by where you might be using them. There are games, toy, and activities for all age, and they’ll make great gifts for any occasion as well as when you are heading out on a vacation.

Crayola Washable Dry Erase Travel Whiteboard – What a great way to let the kids draw and draw, and there’s no paper to throw away and mess up the car. (Hint: If your kids really love using the markers, you might want to buy some dry-erase back ups).


Magnetic Travel Game of Hangman – Who doesn’t love playing hangman, or in this case hang the cute little zebra? With magnetic zebra pieces and letters, it’s easy to play on the move, either in a car, boat, or plane.


Dr. Biscuits’ Radical Road Trip – 60 road trip games to play and fun for all ages. You can do as many or as few as you like, but it will keep you laughing the whole trip. A great way for the whole car to be engaged together, even the driver.

Family Games for the Hotel, Campsite, Resort, etc.

Hasbro Yahtzee to Go Travel Game – Everyone loves the classic game of Yahtzee, but it’s probably not a good one for the car unless you are parked for awhile.


UNO Family Card Game, – Another classic game, one that all ages loves to play – UNO.


Connect 4 Grab and Go Game (Travel Size) – It’s small enough to keep in the car, but you will want to play this connect 4 when you are stopped.


Scrabble to Go Board Game – Scrabble takes some concentration and thought, but oh what fun it is!


Pass The Pigs – We discovered this game about 30 years ago and haven’t ever stopped playing it. The kids always like it because who doesn’t want to hold pigs?


Circuit Portable Travel Game – This circuit puzzler game will increase your concentration. It’s great for older kids and adults.


IQ Puzzler Pro, a Travel Game for Kids and Adults – Another puzzler, this game will keep you pondering the solutions until way after you’ve managed to put it down.


Word Spin Travel Edition – With this classic spinning module, you try to make as many words as you can. Can you beat your last score?


Card Games for Travelers – 2 Decks & Book with 30 Classic Games, great for all ages. Cards are the smallest and easiest things to pack, and this gives you a bunch of new card games to play as well.


LIKEE Shapes Puzzle – Wooden pattern plocks in animals jigsaw puzzle. It’s great for sorting and stacking, and is recommended by Montessori. It’s great for toddlers up to age 7. The only thing is, you’ll want to do this at a table (not in a moving vehicle) as the pieces are not magnetic.
