Walking around outside the Forbidden City, I came upon this sweet mom and daughter. We couldn’t communicate with anything other than smiles and hand signals, but we had a great time. Those are the memorable experiences while traveling that I love, even if the interaction only lasts five minutes.

Everywhere we went in southeast Asia, vendors were selling cut sugar cane with a sweet sticky rice in the center. It was delicious. We were tuk tuking through a village near Angkor Wat in Cambodia when we stopped to watch this husband and wife preparing the snack to be sold.

Lhasa. Tibet. What a place! I wouldn’t say it was a vacation, traveling through Tibet is pretty hard-coare traveling. The barren landscape, the altitude, the constant struggle between the Tibetans and the Chinese. It’s all very interesting. The Potala Palace is absolutely gorgeous, inside and out.

One of the prettiest scenes I came across while in Tunisia, this is the old Roman harbour in Carthage. The pots make the image, and they seem to be out of place. Have you ever taken a photo that surprises you?
This photo taken in one of the houses in Herculaeum shows how intact some of the tiles and rooms are. It’s pretty amazing. I think it’s one of the most interesting World Heritage Sites that I’ve ever been to.
