World Heritage Site – Nikko, Japan

nikko

Getting to Nikko was half the fun, especially on a snowy January day.  The train takes well over an hour from Tokyo and then it’s a bus ride or a walk to the temple.  It was a cold, wet snow so every step made me colder than the oen before it.  Of course photographing [...]

A fantastic place to take a day trip to, if you happen to be in Northern Ireland, don’t miss this spectacular site.  The Giant’s Causeway has it all…a legend, fantastic geometric shapes, gorgeous scenery, and lots of hiking paths if you have the time.  We took the bus to the beginning of the interesting [...]

RilaPainting

Our very first day in the country, and we drive south of Sofia to see the famous Rila Monastery.  It did not dissappoint.  It was gorgeous through and through.  Even though there were more tourists here than any other in the entire country, it still evoked a sense of serenity and awe.  One of [...]

WHS – Melbourne Royal Exhibition Building

Summer in the southern hemisphere allowed me to take this very beautifully green photo of the Royal Exhibition grounds.  The gardens were well manicured and had many varieties of flowers and shrubs that are indigenous to Australia.

WHS – The Potala Palace

llhasa

Lhasa.  Tibet.  What a place!  I wouldn’t say it was a vacation, traveling through Tibet is pretty hard-coare traveling.  The barren landscape, the altitude, the constant struggle between the Tibetans and the Chinese.  It’s all very interesting.  The Potala Palace is absolutely gorgeous, inside and out.

Painted with Buddhist symbols in bright colors, the [...]

WHS – The Loire Valley

Chenonceau3

Traveling throught the French countryside in the Loire valley, we passed many a castle.  That, of course, is what makes the Loire valley such a tourist destination.  We don’t always want to go in to tourist sight after tourist sight,so on this particular day, we noticed a sign on the side of the road [...]

WHS – Komodo! Dragons that is….

komodoisland

Who wouldn’ t want to go to this UNESCO World Heritage Site, Komodo Island to see the largest reptiles on earth?  We were staying on the island of Bali, and we were just too close not to do it.  Just getting to Komodo Island was an adventure.  We took a boat tour and [...]

macchu

As a traveler, there are lots of reasons to pick a destination.  For me, Macchu Pichu represents the one that I’ve always wanted to go to, because in fourth grade I did a project on the Incas and it stayed with me for the rest of my life.  Af ter that project I decided [...]
