Photo Art – Fishermen at Sunset

FishermenIndiaSunset

This photo was taken at sunset in Cochin, India. I love the huge fishing nets. The only thing I did to enhance the photo is put a yellow filter over it. What do you think?

HDR – Camel Handler

CamelHandler

HDR photo-processing lends itself better to certain kinds of photography. I like it for showing people who are working. It seems it adds a texture to the photo that shows how hard-working the subjects are. This photo was taken on a 4WD tour of the desert around Dubai. We were flying through and had [...]

Photo Art – Happy Horsecart Couple

Horsecartcouple

I’m enjoying learning how to use HDR and trying to make my photos more artsy. I think I definitely lean towards being more of a documentary type of photographer; I want to capture the moment, the culture. However, I’m really starting to see how HDR can enhance the mood of a photograph. In this [...]

Photo Art – Statue of the Explorers

StatueofExplorers

This statue, although large, is very difficult to photograph.  It seems the sun never quite rose in the sky completely leaving long shadows.  I took a three exposure HDR and I think it turned out quite well.  I like the colors; I like the stone look, etc.   What do you think?

Art Day – HDR of a Red, Red Tree

Redtree

Traipsing around Portugal, we came upon a number of bright red trees.  On closer inspection, it looked like something had stripped the trees of all of their bark and left some sort of red residue.  Even though it made for some stunning shots, I think it’s some sort of really destructive parasite and that [...]

Statue Photography

statueWhiteTower

Everywhere you go, there are plenty of statues.  I’m not really a person who likes to take statue photos, but I was happy with this one.  I think it gives you a pretty good idea what to expect when traveling to Thessalonika.  I think it’s my favorite statue photo of all time.  [...]

Art – American Diners

collinsdiner

I love a diner.  So what if the food isn’t normally something to write home about; all diners seem to have that Rockwell-esque quality that gives me a feeling of “home.”  Home is a concept I struggle with.  I never have one long enough to ever feel homesick.  I don’t have an allegiance [...]

Art – Still Life

BoatFlowers

I’ve never been much of a fan of still life paintings, but for some reason, I love still life photography.  There is no doubt that the owner of this boat is a fisherman.  The colors are bright and it’s just a peaceful scene from the Shimokita Peninsula in northern Japan.

Art – Bicycle and Doors

bicycledoors

In India, everywhere you look is a piece of art.  I just love it.  I doubt that the owner of the bicycle picked this spot so travelers like me would have something beautiful to photograph.

Jordanian Woman

Jwoman

This portrait of a woman in a small town in Jordan, not too far from Petra, is one of my favorites of that trip.  I love the pinkish columns and the contrast with her black clothes.

The other thing it makes me think of is the perception of many Westerners, sometimes myself included, that [...]
