In honor of my daughter’s birthday, this is a photo of everyone drinking sugar cane juice. In true fashion, the glasses were cracked and chipped. As you can see, it was winter. If it had been summer, I think it would have been much more refreshing.

About a three hour drive north of Ankara is a World Heritage Site celebrating one of the oldest civilizations…the Hittites. In this photo, it shows how they constructed arches. Many of their gates also boasted shpinxs, like the Egyptians. There are three parts to the World Heritage Site of Hattuşa: Boğazkale, and Alacahöyük. They are easily seen in one outing, but it requires wheels. If you are lucky, there won’t be too many tourists and the locals will be harvesting or grazing their animals while you are there.
